| The neighbor lady down the street died a little while back; lost a good customer. Anyhoo, they had her estate sale so me and my niece went to look. The woman was, at various times, the art editor, the food critic and the social editor for our local newspaper. You wouldn't believe the cookbooks, literally hundreds of them. Niece bought me one and said, "Let's do a meal out of it to remember your friend." Is she wonderful and clever or what? We did moroccan crabcakes with couscous and a maple creme brulee...HEAVEN. I made a load of atomic buffalo turds for snacking. We had buffalo turds and creme brulee for breakfast yesterday. HEAVEN. Then we headed back down to the farm to see if we could find a turkey. We had a little impromptu lunch outside with the farmer's friends...grilled brats. I brought the rest of the buffalo turds, they were a big hit. Changed the video cam card and then shot the shotgun. Had her aiming at a hedge apple and she hit it both times. I finished it off for her..hahahaha. There was a cock pheasant calling in the pond rushes and I tried to hunt him down. Knew just where he was, but didn't have a dog (Pete had to have surgery, another post). I chunked a bottle that some miscreant had left out there into the rushes and flushed hundreds of brewer's black birds and redwings, but nope..the pheasant had run off. I was hoping to have him for the lunch grill. Flushed a spring doe walking back in. Niece had enuf of green acres and left. I went and sat by a creek for a few hours. As I said, didn't see a turkey, but saw about 15 doe come thru on the wheat. Videos are coming when she is gone. Have no idea when that may happen.... | | |
| I wish my niece lived here, I enjoy her so much. She was traveling back home from a job she had in North Dakota. I told her next time let me know, I have friends up there. Anyway, she and her family live like gypsies. She called me as she pulled out of town up there and said she was on the road and would be there the next day. She had a cat. So I made arrangements to board it at my vet. They are wonderful and Pete would kill it, he despises cats (never knew a decent bird dog that didn't). Had a little change in plans the first day. The farmer whose land I hunt wanted me to bring down his beemer for him, so we took it down...but didn't have room for all my turkey gear..so that will happen (if she feels like it) this weekend. Did get the deer cam set up and took a .357 to plink with. She thought it was too hard to control and too loud...hahahahah. But she did pretty good with it. Hobie was working a group of his dogs, so we watched that. Video of all this will be forthcoming when she is gone and I have time to process it.... | | |
| Niece is here for a visit. I'll be back.... | | |
| I got off my duff and carved three jack'o lanterns for halloween yesterday. I haven't done that in years. Kids don't get out in this neighborhood and we usually only get one or two. But I decided, I enjoy it, I do it for me (besides, huge pumpkins were on sale). We had seven or eight trick or treaters show up!! | | |
| Give me a break. So, the Pretender in Chief takes a midnite stroll down to the hangar and salutes a couple of dead bodies in...who does he think he is kidding? As reported by William Bradley: "The newest winner of the Nobel Peace Prize is evidently moving to a compromise between two schools of thought on Afghanistan: the maximalist approach advocated by the new commander in Afghanistan, General Stanley McChrystal; and the minimalist approach advocated by Vice President Joe Biden. One would have 40,000 additional troops go there, in a counter-insurgency strategy of building up Afghanistan. The other would eschew escalation, instead focusing on counter-terrorist operations using surveillance, intelligence, high-tech weaponry, and special operations troops to disrupt potential new bases. Which presently, as it happens, do not exist." It appears he will send about 10,000. That doesn't even rate the label of compromise. I think I'd rather see him sit down at his desk for once and conduct some real business instead of incessantly grandstanding for the photo ops. If he'd sit his @$$ down and give the military what they want, maybe there wouldn't be so many flag draped coffins available for his pathetic attempt at looking concerned about our fighting personnel.... | | |
